We headed north to Manchester for the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) Congress – an annual event where we are delighted to be exhibiting and offering advice on how to improve surgical skills.

The Congress was held virtually in 2021 due to Covid restrictions and it’s great to be back live for this year’s event, although the hybrid nature of this conference means people who can’t get along to the venue can still join in through a virtual exhibition and real-time streaming of lectures.

The event, which started on Thursday, is the biggest in our industry each year – bringing together the small animal veterinary community to drive innovation and advancement of science and education.

BREAKING NEW GROUND

It’s our first congress as MSM Vets and we have already engaged with many delegates at our trade stand – raising awareness of MSM Vets and the ways we can help and support veterinary practices in developing their surgical skills.

We have brought along our Laparoscopic Trainer for people to practice on – one of the many dry lab training exercises that we at MSM recommend practising on before starting on live animals. The trainer teaches valuable early laparoscopic depth and handling skills and has been in great demand with visitors to the exhibition.

BSAVA was founded in 1957 as a professional body to serve veterinary surgeons who treat companion animals and has grown to the point where it now boasts more than 10,000 members. The annual congress features industry-leading representatives, showcasing their products and services and this year hosts more than 150 guest speakers.

AWARDS CEREMONY

On Thursday we were also able to attend the Petplan Veterinary Awards 2022, also known as the Oscars of the veterinary industry. There were nearly 23,000 nominations this year from clients and veterinary staff across the country.

Those nominations were trimmed down by an independent panel to three shortlisted finalists in each of five different categories before the awards were made to the winners last night. The awards, the 23rd held annually, highlight the very best in our industry – veterinary practitioners who are helping to keep pets healthy on a daily basis.
